Recreation Therapy

Therapeutic Recreation uses treatment, education, and recreation services to help people with illness, disabilities, and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence, and quality of life (NTRS 2000).  Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy is provided by trained professionals who are certified and/or licensed to provide services.

At Simple Steps, LLC, we contract with Recreation Therapists to provide home and community based therapeutic programming to meet the needs of your child, youth, and/or adult family member with special needs. Our therapists work with your family to provide leisure education, which includes teaching leisure awareness and leisure skills, and recreational opportunities.

Therapeutic Recreation Activities and Outings

Therapists tailor programs to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities; therefore, each Recreational Therapy program looks different. Therapeutic Activities may include but are not limited to the following: arts and crafts, scrap-booking, computer skills, team sports, card games, board games, music activities, cooking/baking, and puzzles. In addition, clients may participate in Therapeutic outings, including but not limited to the following: movies, bowling, adapted kayaking, laser tag, community festivals, concerts, zoo, park, garden center, department stores, and Professional Sports Games. Clients with specific interests are encouraged to share those with their therapists.

Note: Activities and Outings are subject to approval by therapist.
